Irish Storytelling in Ponferrada, Spain, 28 February 2018

Change of venue: two performances at 6 and 8 pm at the Sala Río Selmo on Calle Río Selmo, 12. The event is organised by the Association of Students of the Official School of Languages.

The 8 pm session will feature a condensed version of the longest tale in the Ulster Cycle: The Champion’s Portion, a rollicking burlesque of the warrior genre. Two of the strongest female characters in Irish traditional stories, Queen Maeve of Connacht and Emer, clever, independent-minded and outspoken wife of Cúchulainn, have prominent roles. A list of characters and an outline of the plot will be made available to the audience.

I have a long shortlist of less complex stories for the 6 pm session. Some of those that I won’t have time for will be included in the 8 pm session.
